What is a biomethane certificate?
Biomethane is renewable gas made from organic waste such as manure, food waste and crop residues, upgraded to natural-gas quality and injected into the grid. Because it mixes with other gas in the grid, its renewable value travels separately as a certificate. A Guarantee of Origin (GO) proves where and how each MWh was produced. A Proof of Sustainability (PoS) shows it meets the EU sustainability criteria. Companies use them to meet transport and energy obligations or to back green-gas claims.
Is VerdIQ an exchange?
No. VerdIQ introduces counterparties and provides software for bilateral transactions. It does not operate a trading venue, deal in financial instruments or act as principal. Every deal is a contract between the two parties.
What do you mean by intelligence? Do you publish prices?
No prices and no index. Intelligence means three things: offers checked against your spec attribute by attribute, guidance on what a certificate must carry for the use you intend, and short market notes on regulation and registries. It informs your decision; the decision and the contract stay yours.
Who can join?
Producers, compliance buyers and traders of biomethane certificates. Each organisation is reviewed and onboarded by VerdIQ, including our own KYC, before it gets access.
When does my counterparty see my name?
Only after both sides have accepted the same terms. Until then, listings, requests and negotiations are anonymous.
Who handles the registry transfer and payment?
You and your counterparty, directly, as in any bilateral deal. VerdIQ sends both sides the deal recap and can walk you through the registry steps, but stays out of the flow of certificates and money.
Which certificates and registries?
Biomethane Guarantees of Origin and Proofs of Sustainability. Listings carry the registry, from national registries such as Enagás (ES), EEX (FR), Vertogas (NL), dena (DE) and UK GGO, connected through hubs such as AIB and ERGaR, feedstock, carbon intensity, support status, country and production period.
